Local Narratives
It all started with a trek gone wrong. I was hiking through the Sahyadri mountains, lost my way, and ended up in the wrong base village. That’s when I first met Uttam Dada and his family—paddy farmers at the foot of Kalsubai in Maharashtra. I had no idea that random afternoon and this unexpected meeting would spark the beginning of Local Narratives.
I ended up staying with them for a month, diving deep into village life—learning paddy farming, cooking with the locals, and living like one of them. I even brought along friends, family, and over 100 fellow students to share that experience with me.
What started as fun turned into something more. We all left with conversations and thoughts we didn’t expect—ones you only have when you’re out of your comfort zone. We came back with fresh perspectives, new possibilities, and a sense of belonging to that random place we stumbled upon.
That’s how Local Narratives was born. We wanted to give others the chance to have these life-changing experiences (I know it sounds cheesy, but it's true!) while also empowering and celebrating the rural communities of India, giving them the opportunity to host us.
